N.C. State Fair

New to the area? Let us be the first to tell you about the N.C. State Fair. Regularly ranked as “one of the top 25 fairs in North America,” the state fair is something to look forward to every fall. The event goes on for 11(!) days and is chock-full of head-tilting foods, rockin concerts, adorable animals and all of those old-school rides you loved as a kid. Here’s a quick rundown of what we’re looking forward to when it opens tomorrow, October 11th:

  • Hitting up the Homegrown Music Fest—No better place to check out the local talent than front row at the fair’s Dorton Arena. Shows begin nightly at 7:30pm and are FREE with fair admission. Swing in for a song or dance the whole night away--either way, you’ll be sure to leave with a sway or a pep in your step. Here’s the schedule.

  • Trying “Unicorn Bacon”—Actually, we’re not sure where we stand on Unicorn Bacon yet (it’s bacon on a stick, dipped in frosting and covered in Fruity Pebbles) as it is a new addition to the fair’s food offerings this year. You see, returning fair vendors try to outdo their previous menus (and one another) by concocting crazy dishes that are strange but still delicious. For a run down of what other culinary delights are debuting this year, here’s a full summary.

  • Meandering down Midway—Which to tackle first: the Cyclone, the Delusion, the Vertigo or the Zipper? If your head is spinning now, you may want to watch from the sidelines, but those who love a dose of adrenaline are sure to find it on one of these classic carnival rides. There’s also a number of games to play--perhaps now’s the time to win an oversized stuffed animal to cozy up your new A/B home?

Of course, with 11-days of nonstop entertainment scheduled, there’s way more happening than we can cover here. We say just scoot down I-40 to the fairgrounds and check it out for yourself, as it’s only a 20-minute ride from our home. And if you have any questions, be sure to ask our A/B team (we have a number of fair enthusiasts on staff!).

Ok, see you there!
